READING FC toppled Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Hogwood Park for their first win of the Under 18 Premier League season.

Royals fielded a young team including several players from the Under 16s.

But they showed tremendous discipline in defence before Ethan Coleman’s decisive late goal snatched victory late on.

Coleman started on the bench but came on to crack home the winner seven minutes from the end for a morale-boosting victory for David Dodds’ youngsters.

The 17-year-old midfielder is the grandson of the late Ron Foster, who was a member of Reading’s squad of the late 1960s.

Dodds beamed: "We've been putting parts of the game together and we've been playing out from the back really well.

"Sometimes in the final third we haven't been creating as much as we should have, but I thought we created a lot more than we had done.

“We were a little bit anxious just towards the end, Tottenham had a couple of chances, but it was a good boost in performance.”

He added: "Jordan Holsgrove was back having been away with Scotland. He's always a steadying influence in midfield, he deals with the ball really well. It was good to have him back to help some of the younger lads.”

The U18s are without a game this weekend and return to action at Norwich City on Saturday, October 14.
