The game started quietly with both sides opting to test each other’s defences with long balls over the top which proved ineffective.

However the hosts began to settle down and gradually took control of the midfield battle.

This led to the opening goal of the game, which came in the 21st minute after Town striker Carl Davies collected Jamie Connor’s through ball and slotted past Rob Tebby in the Highmoor Ibis goal.

Town only held the lead for 20 minutes, however, as Anthony White converted Mitchell Parker’s cross to level matters for the visitors.

But they hit back immediately and went 2-1 up just a minute later when Danny Lingwood fired home from close range following a Connor free kick.

The hosts suffered a double injury blow when Davies and Connor were both forced off, and Highmoor equalised in the 57th minute when the Parker-White combination again combined successfully.

And they took the lead just five minutes later when Devonn Reid netted following good work from Stephen Peacock, before an 85th minute own goal from Josh Helmore rounded off another miserable evening for Town as they slumped to a fourth defeat in their opening five league games.

Meanwhile, Reading Town also fell to a 2-1 defeat at Thame United on Saturday.

After a slow start, the hosts made the breakthrough in the 38th minute when Danny Jones picked up a pass from left back Matt Hall and fired past Jordan Eggleton.

Town replied in fine fashion and got their rewards when Carl Davies netted in the 55th minute, but Jones’s second with 19 minutes to go condemned the visitors to defeat.

Reading Town are next in action at Bracknell Town this Saturday (3pm ko).

Highmoor Ibis were also beaten last weekend - their first defeat of the Hellenic League Premier Division campaign - when they lost 3-1 at Kidlington on Saturday.

The visitors were decimated by absentees through a combination of holidays and the Reading Festival, with no fewer than seven regular players unavailable.

Boss Marcus Richardson was left with the bare bones to choose from and was forced to play the injured Pa Touray, but he was only able to last until half time - by which time the hosts had taken control of the game and exposed the full back on a number of occasions.

The hosts took the lead in just the sixth minute when Touray was beaten on the left hand side and with Zack Tull slipping, Kiddy striker Chris Weedon was able to head the ball home.

However, Highmoor battled back and levelled proceedings at Yarnton Road with a spectacular equaliser in the 21st minute.

Mitchell Parker received a superb 60 yard pass from Tristan Campbell, and in one movement controlled the ball and made space to curl an exquisite 20 yard shot with his left foot into the net.

With the game evenly poised and with both sides enjoying periods of good possession, Kidlington regained the advantage 13 minutes later when Tom Franklin’s shot beat Rob Tebby in the Highmoor goal.

The second half became a scrappy affair but the Oxford-based side were able to extend their lead in the 74th minute through Jack Quainton.

Highmoor Ibis continued to battle hard and threw players forward as they looked to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, but try as they might they were unable to break down the Kidlington defence and the hosts hung on to continue their own impressive form.

Highmoor Ibis travel to leaders Flackwell Heath on Tuesday (7.45pm ko).
