WOKINGHAM & District Schools Under 11s were beaten for the first time in the Southern Counties League this season when they fell to a 1-0 defeat to St Albans.

Wokingham edged the first half, but it was St Albans – who had two goals disallowed prior to scoring – who took a lead they would never relinquish midway through the second half, Max Smith’s (pictured) free-kick striking the bar for Wokingham late on.

  • ASCOT United U18 Diamonds were cruelly knocked out of the county Cup at the semi-final stage, falling to a 3-2 defeat to AFC Caversham Swans.

Ascot started brightly with Katie Vince causing all sorts of problems on the wing, and they deservedly took the lead when Sacha Williams turned well and hooked the ball into the corner.

Diamonds had further chances to extend their lead, but Caversham began the second period well and grabbed an equaliser with a well-placed shot.

However, Lauren Chapman restored the Ascot advantage, and with 20 minutes remaining, it appeared they were on course for the final.

Caversham had other ideas, though, and an own goal and a late Swans effort snatched victory to send United out at the penultimate hurdle.

Ethan Best bagged a brace in an eight-goal thriller as Ascot United U13 Youth saw off a stubborn Woking Cougars side 5-3, with Charlie Pearson, Josh Smith and Samm Daniel also on the scoresheet. The U13 Hornets fared less well, though, losing 6-3 to Windsor Harriers Gladiators.

James Richardson scored the only goal from the spot for the U16 Youth as they suffered a narrow 2-1 league defeat to Bedfont Eagles.

Luke Frewin fired the U14 Youth to a 1-0 victory over Shelton Athletic Youth, while Patrick Davies netted for the U18 Spartans in a 2-1 defeat to Woodley Saints Kites.

Arthur Dib and Alec Vertanian scored the goals for the U12 Arrows as they played out a 2-2 draw with Winnersh Rangers Pythons, but the U12 Royals lost 2-0 to Maidenhead Magpies. The U12 Aces were beaten 4-1 by Sandhurst Town.
