Rotherham United have had their return to League One confirmed following a 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle on Friday.

The Millers stayed up in 20th last season, the first time they had consolidated in the second tier since 2017.

However, this time around Leam Richardson's men have gone down with a whimper, rock-bottom and 19 points adrift of the nearest competitors.

They have been sat bottom since game week 20, back in December, and have earned just four wins all campaign.

Rotherham beat Reading 4-0 at the New York Stadium last season, while Paul Ince's men beat Matt Taylor's Millers 2-1 in the return fixture as the Royals were relegated.

The first team to be confirmed relegated out of the Championship, Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday are currently sat in the bottom three.

Huddersfield Town; Plymouth Argyle; Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers are all within three points of the drop zone heading into the final four matches.

Carlisle United are the only other confirmed relegated team in the EFL, sat bottom of League One and returning immediately back to League Two after last season's play-off victory.
