THE final match on the River Kennet for this season took place last weekend, with the rest to be held on the RDAA’s section of the Kennet & Avon Canal at Froxfield.

With the first overnight frosts of the season arriving during the week proceeding the match a tough day’s fishing was expected.

Forty anglers were booked in for the match and the weather was overcast with some sunny spells, cold and a strong northerly wind blowing.

The river had a good colour and the flow was slightly down on normal. Total match weight was 4lbs 12ozs which was the worst match weight the anglers could remember.

The top three teams on the day were Reading Fishing Club with 3lbs, King Heron with 1lb 4ozs and Tilehurst Royal British Legion with 8ozs.

The match was won by Mick Stanley of Reading Fishing Club. Mick fished the ‘concrete blocks’ swim on Beat 5A section. He banked one chub of 3lbs and some silvers during the course of the match, fishing stick float method with double red maggot on the hook to record a weight of 3lbs 1oz.

Dave Ward of King Heron was second overall. Fishing three pegs down from the end of the venue below Berkeley Avenue bridge, Ward also banked one solitary chub of 1lb 4ozs fishing the same tactics as the winner.

Steve O’Keefe of TRBL was third overall with just 6ozs of bits again fishing the same tactics.

Terry Littlewood of TRBL was fourth with 2ozs and John Courage/SE claimed third spot with 1oz.

The Club Championship has TRBL out in front with 127lbs 10ozs. Reading F.C. follow them with 70lbs 2ozs.

Tony Tibble leads the individual weight trophy with 24lbs 15ozs and Liam Page-Smith follows him with 20lbs 2ozs.

The points championship leader is Steve White with 30 points and he is closely followed by Ward on 28 points.

The RDAA Tuesday Club returned to the Stacey complex at Tadley to fish the Soke Road Lake and Dave Bosher got back to winning form with 37lbs of carp. Tony Holdsworth took the runner-up spot with 18lbs also of carp and completing the trio was Littlewood with one carp of 12lbs 4ozs.
