THE annual Alex Strachen Cup held in Guildford was the latest competition in the aerobic calendar where top performers from Bulmershe Gymnastics Club, Woodley, were competing for medals across several age groups.

Up-and-coming youngsters in the RAC (Regional) and NAC (National) level categories shone with their impressive displays of gymnastic skills set to fast-paced music competing as individuals, pairs, trios and groups.

Nine-year-old Jay-Marie Beaumont was one of the first to earn her place on the podium, winning the gold medal in the RAC national development category.

Teammate Chania Licorish (12-14 age group) was delighted with her silver medal, as were Sarah Gunde, Maya Neaves, Elise Relf, Leiana Stevenson for their Group performance in the 10-11 age category.

More impressive performances followed with the Bulmershe gymnasts again dominating the medal winning positions in the NAC code.

Gold medals went to the trio of Aylin Gurleyen, Alice Hadjiloucas and Harriet Osbourne, with Danielle Rutland and Amelia Scott continuing their winning streaks with golds awarded in the Group One (12-14) and Group Two (15-17) ages respectively.

Tia Beamont and Alice Hadjiloucas joined Rutland on the podium achieving joint bronze position in the same category, while Taliyah Medford’s consistent performance also earned her a bronze in the 10-11 age group.

Finally, Ellie Brockely and Keira Stevenson entertained with their dynamic performance which was awarded the silver medal.

Delighted coach Holly Lowebeamed: “These are talented youngsters, some training up to 15 hours a week and it always gives such a huge boost to the whole squad when their hard work is rewarded at competitions.

“Once again, these gymnasts have made us very proud.”
