THE British Under 12, U15s and U19s Championships were held at The Oratory School in Woodcote recently.

On a day which featured some outstanding action, the U12 final was contested by Moulsford School duo Harry Gale and Jacob Knight, up against the Seacourt Club pair of James Medlow and Barnaby Tambling.

It was the latter pair who maintained their club’s excellent record in the competition, edging a number of close games to ultimately record a straight sets whitewash 6-0, 6-0.

Radley College pair Max Wetton and Ed Crowston were crowned U15 champions following a straight sets victory against Seacourt duo Max Jones and William Flynn.

The Oxfordshire school duo got off to a flying start and cruised through the opening set 6-2, but their opponents suddenly found their feet to make the second far more competitive.

However, a final push from Wetton and Crowston ensured they took the honours 6-4 in the second set and took the championship.

Oratory School pair Harry O’Sullivan and Jack Mather collected third place and pushed the Seacourt duo to the limit before losing 6-5 in the previous round.

The U19 final produced an all-Radley enounter as Henry Batstone and Wolmar Boris Moller toppled Benedict Yorston and Batstone’s younger brother Ned in straight sets.

The older pairing of Batstone Sr. and Boris Moller cruised to a 6-1 victory in the opening set, but their opponents hit back and went 4-1 up in the second.

Indeed, they had a point to extend their advantage to 5-1, but after failing to do that, they lost five games on the spin to go down 6-1, 6-4.

Boris Moller’s role in becoming a national champion is notable due to his Swedish heritage and his victory makes him arguably his country’s most successful Real Tennis player of all time.

Third in the U19s were the hosts’ own Stephen Blount and partner Zak Ramjane, representing Prested Hall. They lost 6-4 to both finalists in the group stage.
