READING Irish secured the Reading & District League Senior Division title with a crushing 4-0 victory at home to Eastern Rangers, writes Richard Ashton.

The victory ensured Irish – who only returned to the top flight this season – finished five points clear of Dee Road Rangers, who ended their campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Richfield Rovers on Sunday.

The victors then made it six points in three days after Kidmore End – who had previously edged past Whitley Tavern 3-2 – forfeited their clash on Tuesday, leaving Richfield fifth in the table and Kidmore in ninth place.

Last season’s champions Emmer Green ended a disappointing campaign on a high with a 5-3 victory at Southcote.

Tilehurst Club won their winner-takes-all Premier Division title clash with Burghfield 2-1 on Sunday, before going on to finish three points clear at the top by squeezing past Woodley United 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.

The champions knew they had to beat Burghfield after they had been gifted three points by Roebuck’s cancellation last Thursday.

Woodley United finished bottom of the league despite drawing 1-1 with Richfield Rovers Reserves prior to their defeat.

In Division One, third-placed AFC Burghfield could only pick up one point from their games against the top two, losing 4-3 at home to runners-up Mortimer before securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Woodley Wanderers.

FC Woodley lost 1-0 at Henley Town – who in turn forfeited their game against The Pub – before winning by the same margin at rock bottom S.C. United.

Division Two champions AFC Pangbourne were gifted six points as both Emmbrook Inn and WS Hobnob forfeited their matches.

Warwick Arms endured a tough week as they lost 5-1 at home to AFC Burghfield Reserves, 3-1 at Athletico Forest and then conceded their game against runners-up Le Galaxy – who themselves could not raise a side at Pangbourne & Basildon Barbarians.

AFC Burghfield Reserves also crushed Loxwood 4-0 and drew with Imaan 3-3 in the past week. Second-bottom Wokingham & Emmbrook stunned Emmbrook Inn 4-1, and Pangbourne & Basildon Barbarians overcame Arborfield 2-1.

Mapledurham secured the runners-up spot in Division Three East with an exciting 3-2 win against nearest rivals Spencers Wood, the two sides going into the game separated by just two points.

Coley Park ensured a third-place finish in Division Three West with a 3-0 victory against AFC Basildon, the side one position below them on Sunday – although the losing side rebounded with a 5-3 success at home to Whitley Athletic.

They enjoyed more success with a 2-2 draw against Reading Town and scraped past Tilehurst Titans 4-3.

Park Villa and Southbank Reserves – who lost 1-0 to Woolhampton CFC – forfeited against Reading Town and champions Tilehurst Club Reserves respectively.

Division Four East champions ended a fine season with a 6-0 drubbing of Six Bells, although they responded with a 3-1 triumph against South Reading.

In Division Four West, runners-up YPFC beat 116 Exiles A 2-0, Kennet Valley defeated New England 4-3, and basement boys Westfield Athletic conceded at Southcote Colts.
