ASCOT Racecourse is gearing up for the first day of the Flat season this week.

A meeting, named Discover Ascot Raceday, will take place this Wednesday at the Berkshire track.

The meeting is aimed at attracting new punters to the sport and as a result, entry into the Queen Anne Enclosure is free.

Alternatively, tickets for the King Edward VII Enclosure cost just £13 when bought in advance.

For newcomers to horse racing, there will be a number of experts on hand to offer help and advice.

The course's bowler hat stewards will also be conducting tours of the famous venue and a behind-the-scenes peek at the jockey's weighing room.

Meanwhile, the feature race of the day is the £60,000 Group 3 Longines Sagaro Stakes, one of the most important trial races for The Gold Cup, which takes place on the third day of Royal Ascot in June.

Gates open 11am this Wednesday with the first race at 2.25pm.
