YOUNG people were given the chance to get their voices heard in front of the powers that be from across Slough.

On Tuesday last week (29/9), Aik Saath organised an event in partnership with Slough Young People’s Service and Slough Youth Parliament to give young people the opportunity to talk to representatives about the issues that matter to them.

More than 80 young people attended and asked questions covering a broad range of issues, including education, crime and policing, issues facing young people in the town, refugees, cohesion and sexism to the panel consisting of Superintendent Simon Bowden from Thames Valley Police, Councillor Natasa Pantelic, Ketan Gandhi, head of wellbeing and community services at Slough Borough Council and Faheem Anwar from the Slough Youth Parliament.

Saleha Latif, a 17-year-old pupil at Burnham Grammar School who chaired the session, said: “The question time event was a great way to bridge the gap between young people and the decision-makers of Slough. They were able to ask questions about the running of their community, and it was very informative for them.”

Cllr Pantelic added: "I was impressed by the quality of questions this evening. It is clear young people really care about our town and want to ensure it remains a positive place to live, study and work."

The event was held at Aik Saath's base in Church Street.
