ASCOT United made it five Combined Counties League wins in a row by defeating Cobham 2-0 at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.
The title contenders, who stay four points clear at the top of the table, delivered a quick one-two with two early goals.
The hosts took a third-minute lead when Jonny Denton swung over a corner and, with the ball being held up in the wind, Calum Ferguson thumped an overhead kick past keeper Lee Norman.
Harry Laflin brought a fine save from Norman before the same player doubled his side's advantage in the 14th minute, heading home at the far post to after Liam Flanighan had sent Denton’s free-kick back across the area.
Despite their mid-table position, Cobham’s miserly defence was the league’s third-best in terms of goals conceded, but by the end of the half, they had virtually all received yellow cards for a sequence of ill-timed challenges and arguments with referee Ahmad Rafique.
In a one-sided half, Aiden Higgs played in Ian Davies, only for Norman to stand up well and save down low to his right.
To their credit, Cobham battled away and continued to do so even after they were reduced to 10 men when Nathan West received a second yellow card for fouling James Richardson midway through the half.
Just after the hour mark, Ascot survived an almighty goalmouth scramble which ended when substitute Prince Otto blasted over the bar and another one in the 70th minute as Cobham appealed for handball.
Aaron Berry missed a good chance, set up by Richardson, to mark his home debut with a goal.
The Yellamen face Abbey Rangers at Addlestone Moor this Saturday.
