WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) Athletics Club added to their growing list of athletes with international status after two members competed for England in an event in Austria.

Jessie Knight won the 400 metres (m) event in a new best time of 52.21 seconds (secs) whilst Toby Makoyawo, 18, was runner-up in the 60m sprint also in a new best of 6.68secs.

Meanwhile the WSEH distance runners were in action at Campbell Park in Milton Keynes for the final match in the Chiltern Cross Country League series.

There was a good representation in the older age groups but with a limited number of club athletes in the lower age groups – preferring to focus on the National Championships in the weeks ahead. Even so the club finished runners-up overall and thus gained promotion to Division One for next winter.

Simon Millett played a captain’s part in the senior men’s race with his second place in 28 minutes and 53 seconds (28.53). Seb Cirillo was close at hand in fifth with 29.30 with Pavit Kullar, 19, having his best run for eighth in 31.04.

Charlotte Firth once again dominated the senior ladies’ race when winning with 21.14. She was closely followed by Natalie Thompson in seventh spot with 24.21. Anne Millett was having only her second run for the club and completed in 51.54.

There was a good turnout from WSEH in the U17s ladies’ event. Kate Thompson was the first to appear in second place on 17.28 with Emmie Savory in touch in third on 17.30 and Morgan Hanson fourth with 17.53.

There was a slight wait before Tina Hansford crossed the finish line in 14th spot with 19.10 with Jodie Bogartz 20th on 20.12,

WSEH had just one athlete in the U17s men’s race – Finlay Kirk finishing fifth in 21.06.

Two club athletes faced the starter in the U15s girls race with Hannah Wooley returning in fifth on 18.30 and Nicole Chamberlain 14th with 20.15.

Finn Canning was the sole WSEH athlete in the U15s boys race nonetheless acquitting himself well with sixth place in 16.32.

There was a duo of club runners in the U13s girls’ event with Amy Cooper eighth and Eloisa Symonds ninth, both clocking 10.51.

The next competition for WSEH is the National Championships in Nottingham in two weeks.
