SLOUGH Town made it back-to-back wins in the National League South after a 1-0 victory at Braintree Town on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

The Rebels travelled to Cressing Road looking to improve upon their away form this season – four wins from 11 league matches prior to the game – and a single goal from Warren Harris was enough for them to secure all three points.

Slough came close to opening the scoring midway through the first half as Sam Togwell saw his header brilliantly saved by Braintree keeper Billy Johnson.

The visitors had the ball in the back of the net three minutes later but Daniel Roberts was denied by an offside flag from the assistant referee.

The Rebels continued to have the better chances in the first half as Josh Jackman pulled a shot wide of the far post from inside the box, before Matthew Lench curled an effort towards the top corner and forced Johnson into a save.

Braintree then had their best opportunity in the opening period as Jordan Chiedozie blazed wide with a shot from inside the box.

The deadlock was broken two minutes before the half-time whistle when great work saw Max Worsfold get to the byline and his cross into the box fell for Warren Harris to fire home. It is the midfielder’s eighth goal of the season and first in nine matches.

The home team had the chance to equalise two minutes into the second half as Chiedozie went through on goal and rounded keeper Jack Turner but Togwell was in the right place to block the shot.

Braintree had the ball in the back of the net with a little over 20 minutes still to play but the goal was ruled out by an offside flag.

Slough had two chances to double the advantage late on as a flicked header from substitute Ben Harris went wide before Lench was not far off target with a bending shot towards the top corner.

The win means Slough Town remain in third position in the league table and 10 points behind leaders Wealdstone ahead of a trip to 10th placed Hampton & Richmond Borough on Tuesday night (7.45pm). The Rebels beat Hampton 3-1 in the reverse fixture at Arbour Park back in September.

Slough have allowed Francis Amartey to leave the club and join Hayes & Yeading United from the BetVictor Southern Premier South.
