SHISKIN, who had fallen at the second flight at Newbury last month, was an impressive winner when he returned to the course on Wednesday last week.

Nicky Henderson's runner (7/4 jt favourite) bolted up in the MansionBet Proud To Sponsor British Racing Novices' Hurdle by 11 lengths in the hands of Nico De Boinville.

The Lambourn trainer said: "He is smart. It was just unfortunate what happened here the first time. As Nico said, it was liked he learned something."

Shiskin earned a 15/2 quote from the sponsors for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Henderson and De Boinville had also won Newbury's opening race with newcomer Bond's Lover (10/1) in the British EBF Mares' "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle.

Punters were confident the same trainer/jockey combination would complete a quick treble as Precious Cargo was sent off the 5/6 favourite for the four-runner MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Novices' Limited Handicap Chase, but the seven-year-old went down by a short head to the battling Moonlighter (7/2), ridden by Tom Scudamore for Nick Williams.

Division One of the EBM Handicap Hurdle saw 2/1 favourite Le Ligerien, the mount if Ben Jones, finish 19 lengths clear of his nearest rival Fibonacci, while Division Two was much closer, with Eddiemaurice (3/1 fav), ridden by Jack Tudor, holding on by a head from Mon Palois.

Django Django (7/1) won the Corbiere Handicap Chase for the Jonjo O'Neill combination of father-and-son in a race which was reduced by four fences to 10 due to the worsening conditions.

There were no such problems in the Premier Food Courts Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race and it produced a particularly eye-catching performance from Your Darling (9/2), giving De Boinville his third winner of the afternoon.

They finished three-and-a-quarter lengths in front of Henderson's highly-regarded Flinteur Sacre (2/1 favourite) with Barry Geraghty aboard.

Winning trainer Ben Pauling commented: "I think this is a proper horse and is probably as good as I've had. It is a long time since I've had a bumper horse like this."
