MANAGER Roger Herridge says Binfield could not be in a healthier position as they prepare for their FA Vase fourth-round tie away to Deal Town this Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

"There is a fantastic spirit in the camp, one I have never experienced in a group of players before," he said, quickly giving the credit to his midfield general Jamie McClurg and coach Carl Withers.

"Going into the New Year, we couldn't be in better shape for the second half of the season."

The Moles got their 2020 campaign off to a flying start with a 4-0 win over Easington Sports at Hill Farm Lane last Saturday.

And their fourth successive win sees them remain third in the Hellenic League Premier Division with games in hand over the two sides above them, title favourites Westfield and Fairford.

Josh Helmore netted twice with Calam Gallimore and Josh Howell adding one apiece.

Helmore, following up his hat-trick at Holmer Green a week earlier, has now scored 21 goals from the same number of games, taking him above teammate Sean Moore into third place in the Premier Division's scoring list.

Threading his way through the Easington defence, he opened the scoring after four minutes and needed the same time to hit the target again.

Central defender Gallimore headed in Binfield's third just before the half-hour mark as they took charge of the game.

It was another header which brought their fourth goal in the 49th minute, with Howell connecting at the far post to meet a long left-wing cross.

With the game won, coach Withers sent on three substitutes, including striker Asa Povey, making his return after a long lay-off due to injury.

Moles chairman Bob Bacon described it as a "great performance and effort" from the whole team.

A 2-0 defeat at Corinthian last weekend left Deal in eighth place in the Southern Counties East League's Premier Division with 27 points from 19 games.

If the tie in Kent ends in a draw, the replay will be at Hill Farm Lane on the following Saturday. It is too far for them to travel up midweek.
