ASCOT United saw their disappointing home form continue when they were beaten 3-2 by Knaphill on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

It was their third defeat in five Combined Counties League games on their 3G pitch at the Racecourse Ground.

The Yellamen welcomed back two players - striker Kai Walters from Bracknell Town and defender Mitchell Gutteridge, who has been living in the USA.

But they got off to a poor start, with Carlo Santoro scoring for the visitors in the second minute and Matt Bunyan ‘s header making it 2-0 in the 16th minute.

United improved in the second half and halved the deficit just after the hour mark. Jonny Denton’s free-kick was helped on by Walters and Ian Davies found the net with a shot on the turn.

However, it took Knaphill just five minutes to score again with Bunyan lobbing keeper Sam Gray.

Substitute Aiden Higgs pulled one back, but second-placed Ascot were unable to find an equaliser.

The defeat leaves them four points behind leaders Spelthorne Sports, who were their scheduled opponents last night (Tuesday). United take on Badshot Lea at home this Saturday.

Danny Horscroft led a remarkable recovery by Sandhurst Town as they drew 4-4 away to FC Deportivo Galicia in the Division One.

The Fizzers trailed by four goals at half-time but showed outstanding spirit to fight back in the second half. Horscroft got the ball rolling after 67 minutes by heading in a well-placed cross from the debut-making Danny Turner.

Sandhurst missed two penalties, but it was third time lucky when Horscroft’s spot-kick found the back of the net in the 83rd minute.

And four minutes later he completed his hat-trick from a chance set-up by Turner, who also had a hand in Joe Barley’s stoppage-time equaliser.

The Fizzers had also come from behind last Tuesday when defeating Ash United 2-1 with goals from Paddy Gardner in the 49th minute and substitute Owen Davies just before the final whistle.

They moved up to fifth in the table ahead of last night’s (Tuesday) fixture at Westside. This coming Saturday they host Walton & Hersham at Bottom Meadow.

Bottom-of-the-table Eversley & California, whose game last weekend at Westside was postponed, meet Epsom & Ewell, who are three places above them, at Fox Lane this Saturday.
