BINFIELD have signed experienced striker Jon Bennett from Ascot United, where he was frequently on the substitute’s bench, writes Dave Wright.

And he will be in their squad when they host fellow top-six Hellenic League Premier Division side Brackley Town Saints at Hill Farm Lane on Saturday (3pm).

With Asa Povey still recovering from injury, manager Roger Herridge has been looking to strengthen his attacking options.

The Moles’ backlog of fixtures is continuing to grow as they were left without a game again last Saturday due to the Ardley United pitch being unplayable following heavy rain.

And they will fall further behind whilst they remain in the FA Vase. They are away to Deal Town in the fourth round on January 11.

Binfield stand sixth in the placings having played fewer games than all of the sides above them. They have seven in hand over fourth-placed Brackley, although just one point separates them.

The Moles are also in action on Boxing Day when they visit Reading City at Rivermoor Stadium (3pm).

Binfield then make the trip to Holmer Green on Saturday 28th December before hosting Eastington Sports on Saturday 4th January.

A week after defeating Abingdon Town 4-0, Wokingham & Emmbrook found Abingdon’s other Hellenic League club a bit too good for them, losing 2-0 to United at Northcourt Road.

And the second-in-the-table hosts would have won by a bigger margin had it not been for Sumas keeper Sean Woodward, who made several excellent saves. He was only beaten by Nathan Kimber after 14 minutes and Jack Gaul in the 73rd minute.

Wokingham, who lost defender Will Day early on through injury, found it difficult to pierce the home defence. Jake White had an effort saved at the second attempt by the keeper and Adam Edwards saw his shot fly over the crossbar.

The Sumas are sixth in the Division One East placings ahead of this Saturday’s visit to AFC Aldermaston, who are in 11th place.
