Both Reading U23s and U18s picked up victories this weekend, taking all three points away at Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

The U23’s travelled to Newcastle on the back of an impressive victory over Charlton Athletic at the Madejski – and made it two wins out of two courtesy of a Michael Olise goal.

After a goalless first half, Olise opened the scoring early in the second half – latching onto a ball from Ryan East before cutting inside and finishing into the bottom corner with confidence.

The hosts pushed for a leveller, with Coniah Boyce-Clarke scrambling to stop Lewis Cass’ headed effort.

Oisin McEntee did have the ball in the net for the young Magpies side after he headed past Boyce-Clarke, but the linesman’s flag kept Reading’s clean sheet intact.

The U18s produced a stunning comeback again on Saturday, coming from two goals behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2.

Spurs led through Dennis Cirkin’s early effort, before Jeriel Dorsett turned the ball into his own net to give the hosts a two-goal advantage at the break.

The young Royals came out in the second half looking to get back into the game and managed to half the deficit from the penalty spot, with Josh Hewitt converting from 12 yards.

Nelson Abbey then scored from close range to level the game, before Nahum Melvin-Lambert secured the victory for Reading – reacting quickest to a loose ball in the final minute of normal time and tapping in from close range.
