FORMER Reading wicketkeeper Sukhi Kang has been offered the captaincy of Wokingham Cricket Club's 1st XI.

He has been given the chance to replace Reading-based Stuart Parsons, who could be moving to Finchampstead.

Berkshire and Middlesex 2nd XI star Dan Lincoln has stood down as skipper at Finchampstead, but is staying with the Home Counties Premier League club, who will now be led out by young spinner James Woodford, last season's vice-captain.

Finchampstead have confirmed Aussie pace bowler Conor Corlet, who was on the teaching staff at Crosfields School in Reading last year, will be returning for the 2020 season as their overseas player.

There could be one or two further moves involving the local HCPL clubs, but not to the extent of what is occurring at two other clubs.

It's understood virtually the whole of the Checkendon side which finished runners-up to Harpsden in the Berks, Chilterns and Mid-Bucks Championship last season are planning to join Thames Valley League club Kidmore End, whose 1st XI play in Division 2a.

There were discussions about the two clubs merging, but they came to an end when the Checkendon Parish Council stepped in. They own the ground and were concerned about the control they would have on cricket in the village. They are now looking to improve facilities there.

Checkendon, however, have made it known they will be withdrawing from the BCMB league.

Kidmore End are planning to enter a fourth team in the TVL next season and are on the look out for another ground.

WALKING football is hugely popular, but I have not yet heard of any female taking part.

However, they will soon have their own sport to play when walking netball coming to Woodford Park Leisure Centre in Woodley.

The hour-long sessions, open to anyone regardless of age or fitness levels, are due to start each Thursday, from January 9.
