SEAN Moore's 14th goal in 15 games earned Binfield a 1-0 victory at Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

It was their sixth win in nine Premier Division games and left them fourth in the standings behind pace-setting Westfields, Fairford and Bishops Cleeve.

The Moles thoroughly deserved to win a game which was played on a rain-sodden pitch and in a swirling wind.

Yet despite the horrible conditions, both sides served up a decent game for the small crowd of nearly 60.

Roger Herridge's men enjoyed a lot more of the possession in the first half and could easily have been two or three goals to the good before half-time.

Josh Helmore, who caused the home defence plenty of problems with his runs down the left flank, hit the side-netting following Jack Thompson-Wheeler's long well-placed cross, while Helmore and Moore set up a good chance for Josh Howell, but he sliced his shot wide from a good position.

Tom Melledew saw his effort tipped over the bar by the keeper and Jamie McClurg had a shot deflected away for a corner.

Wootton Bassett did have one decent spell close to half-time, but they were fortunate still to be on level terms at half-time

Early in the second half, the hosts sent on substitute Brad Pagliaroli and the forward started to cause his former club some anxious moments.

And they twice went close in quick succession before being caught out by a swift counter-attack. Keeper Joe Williams belted a long ball downfield which skipper Moore raced onto and rounded goalie Declan Lehmann before slotting home in the 63rd minute.

It wasn't easy hanging onto the lead, but Moles defended well with centre-backs Calam Gallimore and Idris Kamara prominent and midfielders, especially McClurg, always prepared to thwart a Bassett side who have now gone 10 home games without a win.

On Tuesday last week, Binfield were beaten 2-1 at Flackwell Heath in the Banbury Litho Floodlit Cup, with Helmore replying in the 69th minute to the home side's two first-half goals.

They were then due to have visited Windsor last night (Tuesday) ahead of their home FA Vase tie with Redhill this coming Saturday (3pm).

Jake White bagged a brace as Wokingham & Emmbrook came from behind to secure an excellent 2-1 win at Penn & Tylers Green in Division One East on Saturday.

The third-in-the-table hosts fell behind to a Dean Allen penalty in the first half.

White slotted home a second-half equaliser following substitute Ellis Day's superb cross and the Sumas upped their game and put the home defence under pressure, although they had a close escape when a Penn shot struck their post.

They were again defending when Dan Carter launched a swift counter-attack with a long pass which found White, who raced clear and smashed home an unstoppable shot for the winner. It was his 13th goal in 14 games.

Joint manager Dan Bateman admitted his side were not quite at their best, admitting: "We were posed some serious questions by very decent opposition, however, we found a way to win.

"Defensively, we were solid and were clinical when we needed to be."

Sumas will probably need to set up their game even further this coming Saturday (3pm) when they visit leaders Risborough Rangers, who have won eight and drawn one of their nine league games.
