WINDSOR, Slough, Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) made the long trip to Wigan to contest the final match in the British Athletics League Division One series.

The match however was not without incident. The team had travelled up the night before and ate in a local restaurant. Three team members who had made the same choice of meal fell ill and were either unable to compete in the match or, if they did so, produced serious below performance.

Despite this handicap however,

WSEH

performed well to secure third position, resulting in second overall for the year and with it promotion to the Premier Division next season.

WSEH

amassed a total of 301 points to finish behind match winners Thames Valley Harriers (333), with Sale Harriers-Manchester (320) in second place.

The opening track event, the 400m hurdles, set the scene for the club with maximum points being delivered by Sam Plumb with 52.57 seconds (secs) and Jamal Clarke (58.26secs). Clarke was back in action in the 400m for third place in the B event in 50.92secs.

Ashley Bryant was a potential winner of the 110m hurdles but found himself disqualified. He made amends later with good results in the field events. The busy Plumb continued to contribute to the WSEH points tally with a victory in the B race with 15.82secs.

The opening field event, the hammer, saw Mikki Fin place third with a seasons best of 44.64m.

Bryant demonstrated his multi-event prowess by winning the long jump with 7.28m. He was partnered by Ben Fisher who ensured maximum points by winning the B string on 7.02m.

The pole vault saw Abraham Melbourne set another personal best of 4.40m to finish third, with Euan Bryden winning the B string with his clearance of 4.20m.

It was good to see Ruben Banks in action following his return from the States and he was second in the B string discus with 43.47m. He was also third in the B string shot with 12.27m. Plumb was an unexpected third in the B javelin with 38.45m.

The WSEH triple jump athletes were on song - Paulius Svarauskas won with 15.39m and Kam Cheung Lambert took second place in the B string with 12.23m.

The 4x100m relay had the WSEH squad of Aaron Richardson, Isaac Osei-Tutu, Kieran Shah and Reiss Durban-Davison in second place with 43.03secs.

Hopes were dashed for an even better result in the last event, the 4x400m relay, when the race was cancelled due to a violent thunderstorm.
