READING City maintained their fine start to the season by defeating Hellenic League rivals Windsor 3-0 at Stag Meadow in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Their reward is a home preliminary round tie with Southern League Division One South club Moneyfields at Rivermoor Stadium a week on Saturday, August 24.

The first half remained goalless with both sides having opportunities, but Simon Johnson's men broke the deadlock on the hour mark when centre-back Steve Lee, arriving late at the far post, headed in a corner from Mckoy Palmer.

Eight minutes later they doubled their lead when Khalid Simmo was brought down in the area and Devonn Reid made no mistake from the penalty spot, sending the keeper the wrong way, for his second goal of the season.

With the lively Simmo continuing to cause the home side problems, City now had the Windsor defence at full stretch.

Their third goal, however, came as a gift as a poor clearance was seized upon by Matt Stockhill, who fired into an empty net from nearly 30 yards.

Managerless Windsor became increasingly frustrated and their lack of discipline in the last 10 minutes led to red cards for Rob Lazarczuk and George Gould in the space of three minutes.

City will be looking to maintain their excellent start to the season when they visit Division Two South side Taplow United in the second round of the Bluefin Sports (UHL) Cup on Saturday.

They have been drawn at home to Spartan South Midland League side Aylesbury Vale Dynamos in the preliminary round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup with the tie having to be played before September 22.
