Jose Gomes refuses to comment on referee, after huge penalty shout turned down

Evidence after the game suggested that the shot did indeed strike Lees on the arm but Gomes preferred not to focus on that decision.

He said: "I understand because in that moment because we might talk about a completely different result.

"If I talk now about the referee it looks like I am trying to find excuses about the result and I don't want this.

"I want to focus on my team and players and how I can help them improve and not make the same mistakes.

"If I talk about the referee then I can lose my focus and I cannot win as this result cannot be changed.

"It is difficult to put the focus on the things I can't control because if I do then I could lose everything."

Gomes is hopeful that he can bring in another couple of additions before the transfer window closes on Thursday to bolster his ranks, including a striker.

He added: "I expect to add.

"I would like to and we will see if it will be possible.

"In terms of goals, we don't have enough in the team to be promoted.

"Just to fight to stay in the Championship, I can help them to be better and protect our goal better and get the points we need to achieve this target.

"I know that the directors have been doing everything they can to solve this problem and I think during the next three days some things will happen."

Reading went in at the break 1-0 down due to Kadeem Harris' strike, despite more than matching the Owls.

Gomes believed that his side didn't deserve to be behind at the interval.

He said: "Yes I think my players didn't deserve to go to the changing room losing 1-0.

"We created the Yiadom chance but it is football because we must score the chances we have and try to be better with our defensive organisation."
