LAST Sunday saw our July Association match fished on the Beats on the River Kennet in Reading, writes Alan Hughes.

Up for grabs were the Festival and Chronicle Cup and 40 anglers were booked in for this match on a day where the weather was dry, overcast with some sunny spells and with a slight breeze blowing.

The River Kennet had a good colour and was flowing strongly.

Total match weight on the day was 93lbs 15ozs at an average weight of 2lbs 6ozs per angler.

The top three teams on the day were with Reading Fishing Club 45lbs 4ozs, TRBLAS with 13lbs 4ozs and Courage with 7lbs 9ozs.

The match was won by Terry Littlewood of Reading Fishing Club. Fishing the first peg at the top of the venue on Beat 3B section, he banked four large barbel to 10lbs 2ozs along with three small barbel and bits.

Littlewood fished maggot feeder tactics, with single and double red maggot on the hook, over hemp, caster and maggot feed, to record a weight of 29lbs 9ozs.

Paul Wilding of Adventure A/S was second overall. Fishing the first peg above the Blue Barge on Beat 5A section, Wilding banked mainly perch with a few roach and chublets.

He fished stick float tactics, with single and double red maggot on the hook, over hemp, caster and maggot feed, to record a weight of 5lbs 7ozs.

Richard Rosinski of Reading Fishing Club was third.

Fishing the first peg upstream of the A33 road bridge on Beat 4A section, Rosinski banked small chub, perch and roach fishing pole tactics, with single red maggot on the hook, over maggot feed, to record a weight of 5lbs 6ozs.

The section weights were – A section (Beat 3B) 35lbs 10ozs; B section (Beats 4A and 4B) 20lbs 9ozs; C section (Beats 4B and 5A) 18lbs 3ozs; D section (Beats 5A and 5B) 20lbs 14ozs.
