THE Slough Schools FA Under-11 District Team attended the National Finals and were able to play on a carpet of grass at Birmingham City against some of the best footballers in the country.
The team was outstanding on the day in their play and conduct. The competition was of the highest standard and all the teams were closely matched.
Sloughwon their first game, 2-1 against South London, but could not get a result in the next two group matches, losing 2-0 to The Wirral and 1-0 to Nottingham.
The two group games that Slough lost were against both the Inter-Association competition finalists.
Although it was little consolation to be knocked out at the Group stage by coming third, it was only the two best teams in the competition that they lost against.
The boys will take great pride from the fact that they only lost to the national champions by one goal.
The boys enjoyed the experience of playing at the Championship stadium in Birmingham, despite falling at the final hurdle.
