READING Athletic Club’s Veterans came fourth in the ladies and seventh in the men's in their first league match of the 2019 season at Horspath.

However, there were some very good individual performances, especially from Karen Burles as she was a convincing winner of both the W35 100m A race (13.5secs) and the W35 Long Jump (4.32m).

Cathy Begley was fourth in the W35 100m B-race (16.4s), while Bob Lewis was third in the M50 race (13.6s).

Justin Plank was fourth in the M35 100m A race (13.2s), then went on to take third in the high jump (1.40m) and fourth in the long jump (4.82m).

Duncan Prior finished fourth in the M50 long jump (3.43m), while Lucy Daniells was fifth in the W35 high jump (1.15m).

Jan Drzewiecki (M60, 32.34m) and Julie Wilson (W50, 32.50m were both comfortable winners of their respective hammer events

Drzewiecki was also fifth in the M50 shot (7.64m) and Wilson third in the W50 javelin (18.72m).

Stella Bacon was second in the W60 Javelin (15.16m), and Belinda Tull was fifth in the W35 event (13.35m).

In the 400m, Lucy Daniells clocked her fastest time for three years to finish third in an the W35 A race (68.1s).

Lee Fellowes took second in the B race (77.1s) and Gerry O’Driscoll sixth in the M50 400m (74.4s).

Prior (5:30.5) came fifth in the M50 1,500m.

Luc Jolly clocked 4:27.6 in the M35 1,500m to break the club record and take bronze.

In the W35 1,500m race, Sarah Urwin-Mann (5:21.5 was runner-up and Sue Francis (5:27.0) third while winning the B race.

Debbie Taylor dominated the W50 race from start to finish, with a winning time of 5:57.8, while Debbie Forrest came second in 6:08.8.
