READING FC Under 23s lead the Premier League 2 Division 2 after a 2-1 victory at Wolves in a top-of-the-table clash.

Scott Marshall’s side went into last night’s fixture second in the table and behind Wolves on goal difference.

But a win for the Royals saw them leapfrogged their hosts and go three points clear at the summit.

The visitors could not have got off to a worse start as Sadou Diallo put Rob Edwards’ side ahead within the first 60 seconds of the match.

But Reading were not behind for long as Adam Liddle equalised in the fourth minute.

The striker found space in the middle of the area, collected a Teddy Howe pass and fired low past Andreas Sondergaard to make it 1-1.

A fast and furious first half continued, and Royals were indebted to 15-year-old keeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke for keeping them in front when denying Benny Ashley-Seal on a one-on-one chance.

However, Reading managed to push Wolves back after the break and tested Sondergaard on several occasions.

And they got their rewards 15 minutes from time when Ryan East smashed a shot past the Wolves keeper from just inside the box after being set up by Cameron Green.

Wolves desperately searched for a way back, but Royals’ defence stood firm to claim an impressive victory.

In a further boost for Reading, Tom Holmes made his injury return after a three-month lay-off by playing the first half.
