WINDSOR Ladies go into the festive break on a high note with two wins and two clean sheets in one of their strongest starts to the season.

The 1sts ground out a 1-0 win after taking an early lead at home against a feisty Abingdon team.

Amba Godwin gave the hosts the edge with a goal drilled in from close range on the left, and Windsor dominated play but were unable to unlock the Abingdon defence a second time.

Octavia Highfield came close in the second half, gathering the ball at the top of the D and shooting as the keeper was off her line.

But a dramatic goalmouth clearance from an alert defender kept Abingdon in the game as they tried to stage a comeback.

Windsor were always the more threatening side and some flamboyant runs by Laura Hayes and Maxine Bonnage saw Abingdon pull out the stops defensively.

Intelligent play from Helena Bateman and captain Freya Hayter kept Windsor in control along with a solid display at the back.

The win means they end 2018 fifth in Division One of the Trysports Three Counties League and on the same points as Abingdon, but with a game in hand.

The 2nds ended the first half of the Division Four season in style with a 4-0 away win over Oxford Ladies 6s.

All the goals came in an action-packed first half as Windsor out-manoeuvred their hosts with a shock and awe display.

Nicole McKersie, Emma Williams and Claire McKinnel combined well from the start, tormenting the Oxford midfield and defence.

And with just eight minutes played, McKersie's probing run and pass found Paula Green, who fired home for the first.

Lucy Smith tucked home the second soon after following a clever exchange of passes involving McKinnel and McKersie.

Defender Nikki Hill added the third from an acute angle after a well-worked penalty corner.

And Smith completed the rout just before half time, bagging her brace after being put through on goal by another incisive McKersie pass.

Windsor experimented with substitutions in the second half and while they continued to dominate play, they were unable to add to their tally.

Windsor Men drew 2-2 at home against West Hampstead 3rds with Paul Hayes and Dev Mavar on the scoresheet in their MBBO Division Two clash.

In Division Five, the 2nds beat Phoenix & Ranelagh 2nds 2-1, with away goals from Ben Hefford and Oli Hendon.

Windsor 3rds conceded six goals for the second time in a row as they lost with no reply to Oxford 6ths in Division Six.
