CHALVEY Sports have made progress in the Hellenic Supplementary Cup after a 2-1 win away at Thame Rangers on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

A goal from Bryan Taylor gave the Stabmonks the lead leading into the break at The ASM Stadium.

Thame equalised through Miles Baxter after half-time, but the visitors secured their progress with a goal from Paulo Cicero.

Chalvey Chairman Scott Young told the Observer: “I thought it was a very good win because Thame are having a good season. They’re still unbeaten in the league and had a good run in the FA Vase

“There are a lot of sides that will come away from The ASM Stadium with nothing at all.

“It’s a bonus for us because we’ve struggled for form a little bit and it was a good solid performance to get through to the next round.

“We conceded a soft goal early in the second-half because we switched off, but our keeper Kieran Hudson was really unlucky.

“A month or so ago that would’ve knocked the stuffing out of us but the lads responded really well.

“It was a little bit backs to the wall stuff in the last 10 minutes but we defended well and had a few other chances.

“It was a good win and we are through to the next round. It was definitely a deserved win but we really had to battle because Thame are a good side.

“To come away from there with a win we would’ve taken that before kick-off because Thame will be challenging for the people in my opinion. I’m happy with the win and the lads deserved it.”

Chalvey return to league action with a trip to Milton United this Saturday (3pm).

Young said:”We’ve not won a league game since the end of August and our form has been a bit hit and miss.

"We have a difficult trip to Milton on Saturday because I know we have a few players. Unfortunately consistency for players has been amiss this season

"We've taken points off the teams above us but not below, so I've said to the boys that is something to look at. We have to apply ourselves properly and have looked to put that right in training.

"We have to go into every game with 110 per-cent effort otherwise it will be an extremely long season. Hopefully we will apply ourselves properly and will get the job done, but we will see.

"We've not had a league game for eight weeks and that's a real pain in the backside."
