BINFIELD are through to the third round of the Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Cup following their 4-2 extra-time win at Thornbury Town on Saturday.

The Moles were still stretching their legs following a long journey to Gloucestershire when they found themselves a goal down, with Marcus Wormwell putting the Division One West side ahead after just two minutes.

Ian Davies equalised three minutes before half-time and Binfield looked capable of going on to win in normal time.

However, they failed to take their chances and so the tie went to extra time.

It took Josh Howell eight minutes to score their second and then the Moles grabbed two more in quick succession early in the second period, with substitutes Tafari Downes and Sean Moore the men on target.

Soon afterwards, Peter Fowler bagged a second for the hosts.

“We made hard work of it but we got there in the end,” said manager Roger Herridge.

“We created enough chances to have won five games, let alone one. If it had been a boxing match, the ref would have stopped it at half-time.”
