WOKINGHAM & Emmbrook maintained their much-improved form by defeating Premier Division high-fliers Reading City 1-0 in the Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Cup on Saturday.

It was another fine performance by the Sumas, who last Tuesday had defeated Abingdon Town 6-3 in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup.

For most of this second-round tie at Larges Lane, there was little to choose between the two sides, with the Sumas defence in solid form.

The only goal came in the first half when Will Day beat his marker before supplying a good cross for namesake Ellis Day to turn into the bottom corner of the net.

City – whose joint manager and former Bracknell Town reserve team boss Andy Findlay had quit during last week – pressed hard for the equaliser, but found home keeper Sean Woodward in superb form, making two exceptional saves in the closing stages.

The Sumas have signed Harry Oakley following his departure from Sandhurst Town last week and he could make his debut at Penn & Tylers Green this Saturday.

Sandhurst didn't miss Oakley last weekend, hammering Eversley & California 4-2 at Bottom Meadow in their Combined Counties League Division One East derby following two very late goals from the other Oakley brother, Charlie.

Luke Burrows and Greg Beckett were also on target for the Fizzers, with all the goals coming in the second half.

Mo Davies and substitute Josh Sapsed twice pulled the Boars level and they looked set to earn a point until Oakley struck in the 89th minute and again in time added on.

The two local rivals are due to meet again next Tuesday (7.45pm) at Bottom Meadow in the Aldershot Senior Cup.

Before that, 10th-placed Sandhurst host second-bottom FC Deportivo Galicia in a Division One fixture this Saturday, while Eversley, who lie 15th in the standings having won three and lost seven of their opening 10 games, entertain the fifth club, Sheerwater, at the ESA sports ground.
