ASCOT United hot-shot Nathan Minhas is reaping the rewards for his “fantastic attitude” – but his teammates are also playing their part in his incredible success, writes Dave Wright.

That’s the view of the Yellamen manager Jamie Tompkins after seeing his in-form striker turn in another impressive performance by scoring two brilliant goals in their 3-1 win over FA Vase holders Thatcham Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

“He certainly knows where the goal is,” said Tompkins. “As long as the rest of the squad continues to give him chances, he will keep on scoring. He is getting his rewards.

“What I like about him is his work ethic and his attitude is absolutely fantastic. He wants to improve all the time.”

Minhas joined Ascot in the summer from Maidenhead United, having been their U23 team’s leading scorer last season.

With 19 goals from 16 games, the Panjab international is attracting the attention of other clubs, but Tompkins is confident he will stay loyal to Ascot, who are the current pacemakers in the Hellenic League, although having played more games than any of their rivals.

“As he is doing well and scoring goals he is putting himself in the spotlight,” added the manager.

“There may come a time when he is given a chance to step up a league or two, which is he capable of doing. If he decides to take that chance then he would go with our best wishes.

“But then all of our squad is looking to progress because they are young and talented. They all want to push themselves to see how far they can get. They are learning all of the time as they come up against teams offering them different challenges in different ways, physically and mentally.”

In fact, the players are getting plenty of opportunities to develop their skills as Ascot have played more games than anyone in the Hellenic League.

“Since the fourth of August we played 17 competitive games, which is far too many in a short space of time,” stated Tompkins. “But all credit to our boys, they are doing well to keep up with it.”
