BINFIELD defeated Brackley Town Saints 3-1 on Monday thanks to a solid team performance, although they did receive a helping hand from their visitors.

Skipper James Knight opened the scoring after 11 minutes, 10 minutes later Sean Moore seized onto Dan Middleton’s poor back pass to double the lead and then Eddie Lee added a third in the 24th minute when his shot was deflected into the corner of the net by a defender.

Moles, playing with a diamond formation, had chances to increase their lead in the second half, with Jemel Johnson going the closest.

There were just five minutes remaining when Lewis Leonetti gave away a penalty and Lewis Baldwin made no mistake from the spot for the Saints, who missed an opportunity to go top of the Premier Division table.

“They are a decent side, having lost only one (league) game before us, so it was a great three points for us,” said manager Roger Herridge, who was particularly impressed with young full-backs Will Shaw and Charlie Tuttle.
