Taxpayers across Slough are to be consulted over planned changes to the support scheme that helps residents struggling with financial difficulties.

A discount known as Council Tax Support already exists and no change is planned that would affect pensioner households.

But the council is considering limiting the number of dependant children considered when calculating what must be paid.

Council Tax Support (CTS) is a discount for Council Tax and each year the council has to decide whether to change the scheme for working age applicants.

A consultation running until November 18 will allow residents to use an online calculator to help them understand what the potential impact of planned changes might be for their household.

After using the online calculator there is a short online questionnaire for residents to fill in.

The consultation is open to all Slough residents, even those who don’t receive Council Tax Support, as well as businesses, community and voluntary organisations.

The findings from the consultation will contribute to the final recommendations that will be put forward to a Cabinet meeting in January 2020. The council will then take a decision on the way forward.

If approved, the changes would come into effect from April 1.

You can complete a questionnaire online at www.slough.gov.uk/consultations or come to a drop-in session to discuss how the proposals may affect you. For help completing the questionnaire email counciltaxsupport@slough.gov.uk
