Windsor Mencap has a new home.

On Saturday it officially celebrated the opening of its new hub from where it will operate services and club nights for people with a learning disability who live in and around Windsor.

The afternoon’s celebration included games, nail painting, sand art, arts and crafts, cream teas and a barbecue enjoyed by members, their families and friends.

Windsor and Maidenhead’s town crier Chris Brown led the opening, which proved to be an emotional event after four years of waiting for the new building to come to fruition.

Mencap chairman Adrian Greensmith thanked treasurer Brian Willatts and project manager Selwyn Brown for their efforts.

He said: “I truly believe that we have delivered a facility of unrivalled quality for not just people with learning disabilities but also the wider community to use and we want to welcome all comers to engage in using this wonderful new space. I want us to take this opportunity to deliver new services and opportunities to the entire Windsor community."

Visitors who remembered the previous Mencap building were bowled over by the size and facilities offered in the new one. The building, sited on the recently opened Castle View Retirement Village in Helston Lane benefits from good parking and a garden with deck & AstroTurf lawn, available for local community and private hire with yoga classes already taking place twice a week.
