Maidenhead was open for business again today following yesterday's devastating fire.

Firefighters sent the stop message at 7.50pm last night, exactly 18 hours after being called to a blaze at the old Roma nightclub in Queen Street.

Crews went back at 10am this morning for a final inspection and have now left.

The blaze in the derelict building began around 2am yesterday and was fought by firefighters from across Berkshire, supported by Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and London.

The derelict club was one of several empty buildings due to be demolished as part of the regeneration project for Maidenhead.

As the blaze threatened to spread out of control the Nicholson shopping centre was closed down.

Queen Street along with The Broadway, King Street, High Street and Park Street were all affected as well as part of York Road.

Police took control of the site last night so investigations into the cause of the fire could begin.
