A 10-year-old Slough girl has won an international art competition in Japan.
Siyona Bhandari won the Creative Karuta Award 2018. Karuta is a traditional Japanese card game and the competition was designed around “sharing the charm of Japan and other countries”. The competition aimed to promote the traditional game ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Slough youngster received an award certificate and global Karuta playing cards. She is now considered a Karuta ambassador as she’s the only winner from the UK.
Siyona’s teacher, Marinela Caldarus, said: " As a teacher I am more than impressed about Siyona's achievements. This is her second international art competition that she has won and it represents
the results of a really hard work filled with passion and devotion and it will definitely lead her towards a great career into the art industry."
