A scheme ran in association with Slough Borough Council and Active England which aims to help get men active and lose weight has received an award.

‘Man vs Fat’ is a football league with a twist. Alongside points being awarded for the result of matches, teams also receive points for weight lost by players during the week.

The Slough team received the Physical Activity for Health Award” at the seventh annual Get Berkshire Active Awards.

Active community’s co-ordinator Ciaran Crean said: “The Man vs Fat campaign offers a bit more than simply joining weight loss groups. It gives people who may not have played football since they were at school a chance to lose weight and improve their social lives, the camaraderie in the group is brilliant, as is the social side.

“Just under 100 men participate, 36 of whom have lost 5 percent of their body weight with 12 losing over 10 percent. Collectively, the total weight loss has been 500kg, which is about the same as a full-grown crocodile.”

The matches are hosted every Monday night at Arbour Park Stadium in Slough. For more information of how to join, visit www.manvfat.com.
