Funding for Slough’s aspiring athletes is on offer thanks to an athlete monitoring scheme.

The Everyone Active Sporting Champions scheme which is ran in partnership with Slough Borough Council is entering its fourth year. Over 800 local athletes having received access training facilities, advice and financial support in the last four years.

Successful applicants will receive free access to Everyone Active’s centres across the country. Those on the higher tiers of the programme can also receive a sponsorship grant of up to £5,000 to help towards training and competition costs.

In 2018, the scheme hosted two mentoring sessions which featured talks from industry experts and Olympic and Paralympic athletes who shared their own personal experiences and advice with those in attendance.

Councillor Rob Anderson, cabinet member for environment and leisure, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for all aspiring athletes in Slough.

“I would urge any young talented sports person who is thinking about a sporting career top apply today and kick start your future. Who knows, in years to come you could be representing Great Britain and flying the flag for Slough.”

Everyone Active regional director Jon Senior added: “We have exciting plans for the future of the scheme and I would encourage any athletes from Slough that are looking not just for funding but also mentoring for their future sports career to apply for Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions scheme.”

An online application will be open from Monday 21 January and will remain open Friday 22 February.
