POLICE have arrested two men after a pedestrian died in a country lane horror smash early today.
Emergency services were called to Burghfield Road, Burghfield at 5.20am when a white Mercedes Sprinter van was in collision with a man close to the M4 motorway bridge and the road remained closed in both directions for nearly two hours..
Police arrested the driver and a passenger who are currently in custody at Newbury Police station but the victim, who is believed to be a 28-year-old from Reading is yet to be identified.
Acting Sergeant of Chieveley Roads Policing Jim Lovell, said: "In this time of inclement weather, people should drive extra carefully, especially on dark country lanes. They should be vigilant, pay attention and be more observant."
