Emergency services arrived to find a fence post which had smashed through the windscreen just inches away from the shocked driver's head.

Two fire crews, police and ambulances were all in attendance at the scene in Colemansmoor Road, Woodley after the collision at around 11.30pm last night.

The silver BMW 318 had been travelling towards Loddon Bridge Road when the car left the road and collided with a tree, spinning 360 degrees and crashing through into the garden of a nearby home.

The male driver was conscious when the ambulance crew arrived and firefighters had to cut away the driver's side door and steering wheel to help remove the injured man.

No one else was injured but the driver had to be rushed to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
