CITIZENS Advice in Wokingham has helped over 200 residents to reduce the cost of their energy bills as part of the Big Energy Saving Week.

Citizens Advice held events in Wokingham and Woodley Town centres last week to discuss with residents how to reduce energy costs.

The sessions all took place during Big Energy Saving Week, which is a national campaign run by the organisation.

Jake Morrison, chief executive of Citizens Advice Wokingham, said: “Big Energy Saving Week is a fantastic opportunity to get expert advice on a range of ways you can reduce your energy costs.

“Switching your tariff or supplier is normally the quickest and most effective way to bring your costs down, but you can also modify your home and change your habits.”

Volunteers adviced nearly 300 residents to check their meter bills regularly, switch to a different tariff and save energy by turning appliances off when not being used.

Mr Morrison added: “It’s important for us to be taking part in Big Energy Saving Week as its older people and those on the lowest incomes who are likely to be paying over the odds for their energy as they’re least likely to switch.

“I am proud that our dedicated team of volunteers spent time out in the cold talking to over 200 people about how Citizens Advice Wokingham can help them.”

Sir John Redwood, Wokingham MP visited the Citizens Advice stall in the town centre, as well as having a tour of their offices.
