Where Wokingham’s residents vote could be set to change after the council ordered a review of its polling places.

The authority is asking its voters for their thoughts on where the ballots are held in order to implement any possible changes by 2020.

Andrew Moulton, returning officer, said: “We’re looking for feedback on any aspect of the polling district or place.

“As our population is growing, we want to ensure that polling places are convenient and accessible for all, and boundaries well defined.

“Residents, community groups and those with a particular interest such as disabled charities are all invited to respond, so please get in touch.”

Wokingham locals have until Friday, November 16 to respond to the consultation with any recommendations online.

The Salvation Army hall in Wokingham is a current polling place and is accessible by walking across the regenerated Market Place south of the town hall.

However, Market Place has come in for criticism in recent weeks after reports emerged of safety fears in the town centre.

Resident Sarah Kerr asked councillor Philip Mirfin about the colour of the pedestrian crossings being too similar to the colour of the pavement.

Councillor Philip Mirfin addressed the issue in a statement, which read: “Safety is of paramount importance, particularly when it concerns our more vulnerable residents, but it is also important that we don’t make knee-jerk changes to a scheme that was carefully designed with a lot of engagement with accessibility groups.”
