A new coaching launch just acquired by The Windsor Boys School Boat Club has been named in honour of a man who loved rowing all his life.
The boat was launched this month - thanks to a substantial grant by Windsor Lions Club, which raises funds for good causes across the town and beyond.
It was launched by Lion Diane Purchase - and has been named Harry Purchase Lion of Windsor in memory of her husband.
Mr Purchase was a lifelong rower, who started as a 14-year-old with Quintin BC in London and later with Leander Club at Henley.
He just missed selection for the 1952 Olympic Games held in Helsinki. As a Lions member dating from 1974 he was instrumental in many fund-raising events to benefit local charities and initiatives.
The new boat replaces the old Lion of Windsor - acquired by the school boat club in the 1980s, again with the help of Windsor Lions Club.
