ROADS have been closed in Earley, Wokingham and Reading and as areas remain flooded following torrential rain.

Wokingham Borough Council confirmed that Church Road in Swallowfield; Mill Lane in Earley between Mole Road and Lower Earley way north and Park Lane in Finchampstead between Reading Road (A327) and Nine Mile Ride have all been closed due to flooding.

Deans Copse Road in Theale is also closed due to flooding.

Police have advised people not to risk going through it.

A spokesman from Thames Valley Police said: "Three cars have had to be recovered from the flooded section so far this morning.

"Tickets will be issued for ignoring the road closure. We have also had people removing the signage."

In a post on Twitter, the council advised residents to use alternative routes and leave extra time for journeys.

Three-way lights are in place on Easthampstead Road, Wokingham, near the junction with Southlands Road, to allow SSE to carry out emergency repairs due to low voltage. These will be in place until 23 January.

One flood warning is in place for properties closest to the River Kennet around Burghfield, Southcote, Coley, and Holybrook areas.

The warning states: "Property flooding is possible. River levels have fallen on the River Kennet in the Burghfield area. The river is expected to rise again today in response to yesterday's rainfall, but it will not reach the highest levels experienced on Thursday."

It added: "No further property flooding is expected. Light showers are possible today, and the weather then becomes more settled."

  • River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon, and also the Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney
  • River Pang from East Ilsley to Pangbourne and Sulham Brook
  • River Thames and its tributaries from Days Lock to above Pangbourne
  • River Thames for Henley, Remenham, Medmenham and its tributaries
  • River Thames for Shiplake, Lower Shiplake and Wargrave
