MORE hospital strikes are planned to take place in the lead up to Christmas over NHS 'privatisation' proposals.

GMB trade unionists have called for three further days of strike action on December 18, 19 and 20 for demonstrations to take place outside Frimley Health trust hospitals.

The strikes aim to lobby NHS Foundation chiefs to change their minds about 'privatisation' proposals, which could see the contracts of hospital porters, cleaners and security and catering staff transferred to private companies.

Last month, GMB members held two 'successful' days of strike action by holding 'stop privatisation' placards outside Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot, Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley and Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.

Asia Allison, GMB regional organiser, said: "This second phase of industrial action is simply the next step towards if needs be in a winter of discontent for affected staff at the Trust.

"Our members tell us that they are committed to saving their NHS status and that no future outside in either a wholly owned subsidiary or contractor is acceptable to them in any form."
