TV CELEBRITY and Coronation Street star Sherrie Hewson kicked off Christmas celebrations at a Bracknell care home.

The Big Christmas lights switch-on took place at Astbury Manor Care Home on Friday, November 22 with music, lights and afternoon tea accompanied with a big glass of sherry for Sherrie.

Staff and residents decorated the care home with a gold-themed Christmas tree, tinsel and lights in preparation for the big reveal.

The Mayor of Bracknell, Councillor Pauline McKenzie, and her husband also joined in the festive activities.

Juliet Gallop, home manager, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came to Astbury Manor to attend our BIG Christmas Light Switch On, it was a fantastic afternoon.

"All the preparation & timings went perfectly, and Sherrie and the Mayor were marvellous.”

Residents at the Avery Healthcare care home enjoyed singing-a-long to Christmas songs and meeting the Corrie star.

Local choir group, The Bracknell Singers sang Christmas carols at the event putting everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Award winning chefs at the care home prepared afternoon tea with tasty quiche's, sausage rolls, a selection of sandwiches, cupcakes and cakes.
