The following cases were heard at Reading and Slough Magistrates’ Court:

October 2:

CRAIG WISE, 30, of Hawthorn in Shinfield, admitted to drink-driving a van through Reading on September 17. Found to have 98mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg. Fined £733, also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £73, plus £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 23 months.

October 3:

PIOTR CISLO, 45, of Ludlow in Bracknell, admitted to driving whilst disqualified on the A33 relief road in Reading on March 19. Also admitted driving without the correct insurance on the same road and same day. Given a community ordered including 200 hours of unpaid work. Also ordered to pay £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. Disqualified from driving for 44 months.

October 7:

JAMES RAMSDEN, 35, of Batcombe Mead, Bracknell, admitted stealing £34 worth of meat from a BP Service Station in Bracknell, on September 16, and a separate offence of stealing £47 worth of meat from a BP Service Station in Bracknell also on September 16. Also admitted to stealing £38 worth of meat from a McColls in Bracknell on September 9, and stealing £32 worth of meat from a BP Service Station in Bracknell on September 11. Also admitted to stealing £108.60 worth of meat from a BP Service Station in Bracknell on September 14. Also admitted to stealing £31.10 worth of meat from a BP Service Station in Bracknell on September 14. Admitted breaching a suspended sentence order imposed on August 13, 2018, for racially aggravated actual bodily harm that took place on May 24, 2017. Sentenced to prison for a total of 22 weeks and ordered to pay a total of £290.70 compensation.

BILLIE-JO COLE, 22, of Milton Road, Wokingham, admitted stealing spirits worth £235.50 from Waitrose in Twyford on June 29. Also admitted stealing spirits worth £228 from Waitrose in Twyford on June 26, and admitted stealing spirits worth £214 from Waitrose Twyford on June 28. Given a community order included rehabilitation activity requirements. Also ordered to pay £100 compensation.

October 8:

DANIEL BILTON, 32, of Holly Spring Lane, in Bracknell, admitted failing to comply with the requirements of a community order of unpaid work on August 4 and August 11. Fined £100 and ordered to pay £60 court costs.

PRADEEP SINGH, 30, from Silver Hill, College Town in Sandhurst, convicted of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm in Bracknell on June 24. Also convicted of criminal damage to property, namely a mobile phone. Given a community order including rehabilitation activity. Also ordered to pay £85 victim surcharge, and £775 court costs.

A fundamental principle of open justice is that it must be seen to be done. It is established in the UK court cases should be heard in public. This principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, as a deterrent to perjury, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of public interest.
