ELDERLY residents took a trip down memory lane sharing stories of their past at a conference discussing themes around ageing.

Wokingham social care provider Optalis held a customer conference at Westmead Day Centre aimed at getting elderly residents with learning disabilities socialising and leading discussions on ageing.

The topic of conversation, 'Ageing Well' was talked about, opening discussions surrounding care and support for older adults with learning disabilities.

The customer conference was held in memory of Julie, a member of the planning group who sadly passed away in July.

Jodie Reichelt, customer experience champion at Optalis, said: "We take pride in tackling serious topics in a way that is engaging and entertaining. "People in attendance had great fun and hopefully learnt something new in the process.

"By involving people with disabilities every step of the way, we ensured that the event was meaningful and suitable for all."

Elderly residents took part in activities, discussions and games based on serious topics such as growing old and how residents can feel more supported.

The social care provider also gave important advice for residents who have retired or are considering it.

Jodie added: “We want the customer conference to be a springboard for offering new services.

"Currently, we are in the planning stages of creating a Retirement Club and all of our delegates have been invited to help us design what it should offer and how it will run.”
