PARENTS are urging planning bosses to throw out a proposal to add a car wash next to a special needs learning centre.

The Rise@GHC is part of Garth Hill College and is located to the west of the proposed site, which is on the corner of Bull Lane and Eastern Road.

Campaigners have been rallying against the plans for months and Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) chiefs will finally make a decision on the designs next week.

Officers have recommended the application is approved despite more than 150 objections from neighbours at Fleming Place flats and parents who are concerned about increased noise from the site and road safety issues.

Marie-Anne Varela, who has a child at Rise@GHC, said: “I strongly object to this proposal.

“The area encompasses a special needs school serving children with complex diagnoses.

“As a parent of a child attending The Rise, concerns have already been made to BFBC about the lack of safety and traffic calming measures outside a school for vulnerable children and this will create further risk with increased traffic.

“Secondly, children at the school have a high range of sensory needs and extraneous stimulation will create additional stress for what is a safe, sensory dedicated school environment.”

Despite this, officers believe the site is far away enough from the school that “unacceptable levels of noise” would not be an issue.

Bosses also say “there are no over-riding highway safety implications” with the plans.

A spokesperson for the neighbours living in the flats at The Quarters told the News the officer’s analysis was “an absolute joke” and many of the conditions added to the recommendation to approve “can’t be achieved.”

The spokesperson suggested cars could not be jet washed effectively at 70-80 bars of pressure - the level officers say washers must not exceed as one of nine conditions.

But according to research of nearby garages, jet washes reach up to 130 bars of pressure when washing cars.

Neighbours worry washers will increase the pressure at the new car wash to clean the vehicles and therefore more noise will come from the site.

Planning bosses are set to give the plans the all-clear on Thursday, November 14.
